The Voltage SecureMail Gateway Server expands the groundbreaking Voltage SecureMail solution by adding support for policy-based message encryption and decryption. This gateway-based capability allows enterprises to enforce rules controlling the protection of sensitive messages, to ensure compliance with regulations such as Gramm-Leach-Bliley, HIPAA, and Sarbanes-Oxley.
The Voltage SecureMail Gateway Server also integrates with content filtering solutions to ensure that anti-virus, anti-spam, content scanning, and archiving policies apply to secure mail and normal mail alike - both inbound and outbound. The appliance form factor supports gateway encryption capability, and also provides a secure platform for the Voltage SecurePolicy Suite and Zero Download Messenger Server.

- Policy-Based Encryption: Email encryption rules on the Voltage SecureMail Gateway Server can reinforce compliance-focused end user training initiatives, or enable client-less deployments that support regulatory compliance initiatives. This capability is enhanced by supported integration with leading content scanning engines, enabling policy-based encryption to be triggered by message content or matches against compliance lexicons (e.g., HIPAA, GLBA, etc.).
- Email Services Integration: The Voltage SecureMail Gateway Server can be integrated with leading content scanning engines to ensure that any messages containing sensitive content are automatically encrypted. This integration also ensures that all email traffic, whether encrypted or not, can be processed by anti-spam, anti-virus, content filtering, and archiving solutions.
- Intelligent Encryption routing: Interoperability with legacy encryption protocols such as OpenPGP and S/MIME, and intelligent routing to ensure recipients (including BCC recipients) receive the message in the anticipated format.

MTA Architecture
The Voltage SecureMail Gateway Server utilizes standard SMTP (Simple Mail Transfer Protocol) and seamlessly integrates with any MTA (Message Transfer Agent). This enables an MTA-based content scanning and policy engine to determine which messages require encryption, and then route only those message through the Voltage SecureMail Gateway Server for encryption and delivery. Similarly, MTA integration enables inbound messages to be decrypted at the network edge, scanned for virus and content, and delivered only if policy allows.
The Voltage SecureMail Gateway Server also uniquely supports more sophisticated integrations to enable fully secure end-to-end encrypted messaging. In conjunction with an MTA-based scanning engine, content filtering, anti-virus, anti-spam, and plaintext archiving of messages can be performed at the network edge, all while preserving end-to-end secure delivery of both inbound and outbound message traffic.
