| First Aid
A First Aid box is provided on top of the kitchen counter.
An Accident Record Book is kept and you will be asked to sign a statement of what happened in all cases, even very minor accidents. In case of a more serious accident, you or your alternative contact will be notified as soon as possible.
Parents are asked to report any accidents, even minor ones, which have taken place out of the pre-school environment to a member of staff upon arrival and Home Incident Form will be filled in and signed. All cuts must be covered before child arrives at pre-school.
Fire
Regular Fire drills are held with the children to ensure that they know the procedure should a fire occur. We have various fire exits and fire extinguishers. If you are present when a fire or a fire drill occurs please stay calm and help the staff to lead the children out of the building through the appropriate exit. In the event of a fire, there will be a long blast on a whistle and listen carefully to instructions about the appropriate exit route.
Our Assembly Point is in Doctor surgery’s car park.
Child Safety
Children are not allowed in the kitchen unsupervised.
No smoking is allowed on the premises.
Doors must be closed behind you so that the building remains secure for young children.
Hygiene
All children must wash their hands upon arrival at the pre-school.
Children should be toilet trained before starting pre-school, but will be reminded and helped when necessary.
Illness
Please ensure that the medical questions on the application form are completed. Please do not send your child to pre-school if they are not well. It can be very distressing for the child and also for other children at the pre-school.
We do not have the capacity to give a sick child the attention he/she deserves and we like to minimise the risk of infection to others. The table overleaf gives guidelines for illnesses and how long children should be kept at home
Please inform the Supervisor if your child becomes unwell with any of these illnesses. We ask you to keep your child at home if he/she appears unwell or has been sick during the past 24hrs. Children should be kept at home for 48hrs after being started on antibiotics.

Administration of Prescribed Medicines
Emmer Green Pre-school’s Policy is not to administer any medicine to children. The exception to this rule is the emergency administration of prescribed medicine for asthma and adrenaline for severe allergic reactions. In these cases specific requirements must be met before the child is due to start. Occasionally a child may have to be given medication during pre-school hours and we have strict guidelines as to how this should be done. Should you require more information on this matter please speak to the Supervisor.
Applying Sunscreen
Key workers may apply sunscreen provided for children clearly marked with their name. On hot days you may want to apply a suitable sunscreen before dropping your child off. Sunhats will also give your child protection from the sun (please make sure these are also marked with child’s name). |
