Government

The need to securely distribute/receive sensitive and critical information promptly between Communities of Interest in the US DoD, federal and local government, private industry, and coalition partners, has never been so important. Email has become the ubiquitous backbone to this cycle of communication and the key to distributing data in a timely fashion.

Research that led to the formulation of identity-Based Encryption (IBE) which underlies Voltage solutions was funded by DARPA. Voltage continues to work with government agencies to create innovative solutions to securing communication. In 2004 Voltage was a key participant in the Joint Warrior Interoperability Demonstration 2004 (JWID04 U.S. Trial 02.08)--an exciting event sponsored by the Joint Chiefs of Staff and hosted by US Northern Command (USNORTHCOM) in which significant technologies to improve the "need to share" ethos among Communities of Interest where brought together and evaluated.  In addition to demonstrating secure email and wireless communications among military and federal civilian agencies, Voltage partnered with an operational trial, the New England Regional Threat Analysis Cell (NE-RTAC) (U.S Trial 02.08) to demonstrate the operational and end user ease of use among real-world military and civilian organizations.

Voltage Security Identity-Based Encryption Wins "Top Performer" in Government JWID 2004 Operation

The Voltage IBE (VIBE) solution is a public key cryptography system that does not require certificates, works completly in sync with existing PKI certificates - especially across the firewall, requires no change in behavior of end users, and enables security across a variety of channels controlled under a single policy framework. The intent of this demonstration was to establish secure, content-level communications among dispersed, multi-agency, multi-echelon participants-this year's annual event was a huge success.

By utilizing VIBE government federal/state/local agencies are securely distributing /receiving sensitive and critical information, without the complexity of traditional Public Key Infrastructures, and finding:

  • Secure communication with low administrative overhead and minimal user training
  • Full two way communication between governments and their constituents regardless of environment
  • Rapid receipt of key documents (e.g. tax returns)
  • End-to-end encrypted and digitally signed email messages that meet the DOD Directive 8500.1 requirements
  • Successful encryption of unclassified/classified data for transmission to and from BlackBerry devices

Voltage's FIPS 140-2 certification, awarded by the National Institute of Standards (NIST), specifically validates the following algorithms: DES, Triple-DES, AES, DSA, SHA-1 and Random Number Generation [ http://csrc.nist.gov/cryptval/140-1/140crt/140crt522.pdf ]. In addition Voltage Secure Policy Suite Version 2.0 is being evaluated for Common Criteria EAL 2 certification [ http://niap.nist.gov/cc-scheme/in_evaluation.html#v ].
