Zero-Day Anti-Virus

Real-Time Protection against Viruses and Malware

With the rapid spread of new attacks by orchestrated networks of zombie computers - and given the potential damage - enterprises can't afford the time it takes signature-based anti-virus software to respond to an attack.

"Last month, when the Sasser virus attacked millions of computers on the Internet, it crippled dozens of companies and cost an estimated $3.5 billion, making it the third-worst virus attack ever. But Boston publishing company Houghton Mifflin Co. escaped unscathed. That's because last December it deployed IronMail, an e-mail security system developed by Secure Computing, Inc. that scans more than 100 million e-mails headed for its clients' networks each day and helps them beef up their defenses. 'I definitely sleep easier these days,' says Eric van Bok, Houghton Mifflin's senior manager of messaging technologies."

- BusinessWeek, June 21, 2004

IronMail Zero Day Virus Protection takes virus protection beyond signatures and simple attachment filtering to close the window of vulnerability that occurs between when an attack first emerges and when a signature is available, protecting networks from attack vectors that don't even exist yet.

Key Benefits and Functionality

Multiple Detection Techniques

IronMail's Zero-Day Virus Protection combines all known virus detection techniques, including a unique ability to utilize multiple virus signature engines simultaneously, keyword policies, file extensions, deep attachment inspection, spam blocking, sender reputation and sender behavior. No other e-mail security product available is more effective at stopping viruses, as proven by an April 2005 test performed by Government Computer News. In this test, IronMail was the only product to block every single virus sent to it - of over 7800 viruses, not a single one was allowed through the protected gateway.

Thwarting Zombie Networks

A zombie computer is one that has been taken over by a remote hacker for the purposes of sending viruses to millions of computers around the world. These hijacked computers are then used in conjunction with thousands of other compromised machines to from zombie networks. TrustedSource, Secure Computing's proprietary reputation system, tracks these zombie networks and other disreputable senders in real time, combining with IronMail Connection Control to stop messages from these senders before they ever reach the network. Since it is unlikely that a trusted sender is going to knowingly send a virus or worm, eliminating inbound traffic from known problem senders will reduce viruses processed by IronMail by up to 90%.

Stopping Infected Outbound Mail

In the event of an outbreak that begins inside your enterprise, IronMail ensures that it cannot spread through your e-mail gateway to the outside world. By stopping potentially infected or otherwise malicious messages from leaving the network, your enterprise is assured that no such messages will ever reach your business partners or customers, preserving your reputation and protecting you from liability.
